"Explore the Rich Heritage of the People of
Cameron County, Pennsylvania!"
2015 the "Little Museum"
was listed among the
10 Can't-Miss Seasonal Museums in Pennsylvania to Visit this Summer by writer Jim Cheney from
Uncover PA.
“ I’ve visited a lot of historical society museums in Pennsylvania, some of which are seasonal and some of which are open year round. However, none blew me away as much as The Little Museum in Cameron County.”
About Us
Founded in 1921 and incorporated in 1964, the Cameron County Historical Society has played an important role in collecting, maintaining, and disseminating the rich history and heritage of the people of the County. Throughout the years the Community has entrusted the Society with their artifacts, memories and family histories.
Today, under the leadership of President John Kautz, you will find a vibrant and enthusiastic membership taking off on a new chapter for the Society.
We own and operate two facilities:
The Little Musuem
In Sterling Run
Once a Depression-era schoolhouse purchased by Lumber Township schoolboard where elementary boys and girls were taught academic basics from the 1930's thru 1962.
The Little Musuem opened its doors in 1971 is unlike other museums in Pennsylvania in as much as most of its space is dedicated to local interest such as in some of our past industries; salt mining, lumbering, dynamite and Sylvania now one of the worlds most well-known electronic companies.
We feature many of our famous sons like silent movie star Tom Mix who starred in more than 291 Hollywood movies and one of the most highest ranking generals during WW2 Four Star General Joseph McNarney who served directly under Dwight Eisenhower.
Our collection has surpassed 15,000 items on display with more being added each season.
